  • I'm not sure why this is labeled as Frag. 3, but this is actually Frag. 1 of 2QExoda, and all the other fragments in this scroll are also mislabeled. The original Plate X in DJD III actually differentiates the fragment numbering between 2QGen (first two fragments) and 2QExoda (the rest of the fragments on the plate).

  • @Juan Pinto
The labeling of the fragment numbers on the website was not done according to the publication in the DJD series. The labels refer to the numbers of the fragments on their current museum plate (this is the 'Mus. Inv.' that appears in the later DJD volumes). This is a number generated automatically by our imaging system as part of the process of imaging both the plate and each individual fragment.
We are aware that this new system of numbering is causing confusion. We are working on also labeling each fragment according to the number given to it in the official publication.

  • Exodus 1: 11- 14
Label should be change to Frg. 1

  • what says there in hebrew? i dont understand what says in the first line, I cannot find the words of the first line in the hebrew bible. The first and last lines seems to be really different

  • This fragment contains text from Exodus 1:11-14. You are correct in that the last line appear different. This is because it contains a variant. “ויקצו מצרים מפני בני ישראל”, “and they grieved the Egyptians from before the children of Israel”. I would understand this line as being an introduction to the Midwives who disobeyed the King of Egypt. It fits well within the context.
